We were inspired to create a design that played to this room’s two key strengths. By extending the space with a purpose-built vaulted entertaining area, we took advantage of both the length of the room and the natural light that pours in from the west-facing garden. This gave the area a feeling of light, vistas of the garden and a sense of spaciousness for years to come.

When you look out of the master bedroom window you’re blessed with a wonderful coastal scene. We subtly linked our interior design to this with a restful colour palette that reflects the windswept storms of deep ocean blues, pebbles, sand and seafoam. To remove any stress-inducing clutter from the environment, we also added extensive storage that not only gives every possession a home, but gave a classic Hamptons style to the suite too.

Every space in our homes should work for us. With more of us working from home or inviting extended family to stay, making the most of every room is more important than ever. This Marblehead Home design used creativity and attention to detail to transform this space into something very special.

We faced several challenges during this project. Natural light was limited, so we kept the space open and light with adequate ventilation. We overcame awkward ceilings, by enhancing architectural features and difficult angles with some clever carpentry. We incorporated layers of light and different textured materials in wood, marble and stone to create interest, without darkening the space or distracting the eye.

The first thing we needed to do was level out the garden’s former steep incline. This allowed us to create a sunken area for an intimate sheltered dining experience and raised other areas to capture the midday sun and provide views that overlook the whole garden. Observing how the sun moved around the garden at different times of the day demonstrated and confirmed to us the ideal location of each social area, as well as the correct planting placement, plus the addition of a French Blue summerhouse provided an all-season retreat for both work and play and completed the scheme.

At Marblehead home, we believe that outdoor and interior areas need to blend beautifully and belong to the same cohesive look. To achieve this effect, we used careful complimentary colour palettes of all-year-round seasonal planting, as well as hard landscaping materials like limestone, to link back to the home’s interior design style.
